While the Cubs as franchise are one of the best surprises of this MLB season, we should take a moment to thank the one player who turned the tide for the Cubs: Jon Lester.
Across the board the team has improved this year, but make no mistake about it, the signing of Lester this off-season pumped something into this franchise that they haven't had in over a decade: hope.
The best thing about Lester is traditionally he is a player that gets better as the season progresses. Lester's regular-season record in September and October to a nifty 26-11.For a team that hasnt seen the post-season in over a decade, he is exactly the guy they want at their side when they head into a playoff battle.
Outside of Kershaw and Grienke, the duo of Arrieta and Lester may be the best pitcher duo in baseball. I wouldn't want to see Chicago in the postseason at all this year.
