Oh, man, am I happy the Mets have clinched.
I remember looking ahead to the last weekend of the season - exactly where we find ourselves now - and being terrified that the Mets would have to defend a slim division lead over the charging Nationals.
Suffice to say, that's not the case.
The Mets stumbled this week against Philadelphia.
The truth is, they aren't playing good baseball right now.
The Mets have not been playing fluid baseball in the last two weeks
The good news? It doesn't really matter.
I mean, yeah, it matters. It matters because with three games left, the Mets and Dodgers have the same record, and both desperately want home field advantage. Fortunately, the Mets hold the tiebreaker against LA having beaten them in the season series, so that gives them a little bit of leeway.
It matters because you want to enter the playoffs playing well, not poorly.
it's really OK that the team isn't playing well.
nothing at stake.
Washington is a disaster, maybe the laughing stock of the league because of the way they have collapsed and failed to live up to expectations this season.
But I still don't want to have to protect a lead against them - a team with a chance is a motivated team.
The Mets can relax this weekend.
