Cubs eliminate Cardinals and move on to NLCS

It's a sad day in St. Louis.

No, seriously. Cashiers at grocery stores work without smiles. The city is in a haze - you can almost taste it. This means a lot to St. Louisians.

The Cardinals - owners of baseball's best record for virtually the entire season - were eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of the red-hot Chicago Cubs.

What happened? The best team won, that's what happened.

The truth is that the Cardinals were a gritty team all year, but without Yadier Molina and Carlos Martinez (their only true ace), who both got injured at the very end of the regular season, they were a team without real punch.

The Cubs, on the other hand, look like they might be the best team in baseball.

This team hits the absolute lights out.

With rookie phenoms Kyle Schwarber and Kris Bryant, not only are the Cubs crushing it now; they look like they're built for the future, too.

Also on the Cubs.

With the Mets and Dodgers not playing until Thursday, Arrieta will get at least a few more days rest before being ready to go in Game 1 of the NLDS, regardless of who he faces.

That's trouble for the opponent.

I know I picked the Cubs to win the series before it started, but I didn't expect them to completely dominate like they did. They look scary good.

I wouldn't want to face the Cubs right now. No matter who I am. I'm not sure they can be beaten - maybe this is finally their year? Or is it too soon to say?

Can the Cubs really get it done?
