Anime impressions: Noragami

Okay so I had some extra free time and my sleep deprived zombie brain decided the best course of action binge watch the rest of this series. Okay so....Noragami.... To say this now, I do find myself liking this series. It has potential and I like to think I am the kind of person who can find something I like in almost (big almost) any series. I will say there have been a few I detested and shudder at the mere memory. But thankfully those are very few and far between. What can I say? I'm easy to please. So when I started watching this, I was wondering how such a great idea was going to fit in twelve episodes but right around episode 4 I realized that this series will probably be spanning out in into many seasons and arcs. I can easily say that it was an easy watch right about episode 10 and on. Thats when I found myself tuning in a bit more. There was something about the last few episodes of this series....something nostalgic and vaguely familiar..... ...

.......O_O....... Oh. Yeah this is what popped in my head. The first half of the series seemed like it was doing its own thing but kept a loose thread between them. The last few episodes though felt like I was watching one of the plots from this epic and amazing series, Rurouni Kenshin. In the early episodes of RK there is one villain that reminds me of Rabo on so many levels.

This guy. Yeah this guy, Jinei Udo. For some reason watching the last few episodes reminded me of this guy. Maybe it was the whole Rabo and Nora wanting Yato to turn into murderous man slaying god of calamity just like how Jinei wanted Kenshin to become Hittokiri Batosai again just for the sake of battling each other once again. And a lot of the shots and frames in Noragami reminded me a lot of this epic battle.

Especially this one

Yeah, I do dig crazy eyes.

Even this awesome bit of fighting

reminded me of this. Now I do wish this series had more to it. I feel like the entire first season was spent trying to squeeze what should have been 24 episodes of plot into 12. But despite that, I did enjoy it. The animation was great most of the time and the sound track was fun and definitely interesting. I especially enjoyed the character growth of Yukine. His arch probably was my favorite of this season and it was definitely touching to watch. As a stand alone, Noragami was enjoyable if not needing to have more episodes to be able to really flush out this story line. And so now it was brought to my attention that this series now has a season two.

I haven't seen it and will probably start to look for it soon. I really think this show can be a great one and can't wait to see more. Bonus points to this show as well since it did give me that nostalgic feels for my old anime crush.

Hmm...what to tell? I'm a anime loving, tea drinking, gothy mad hatter that has a penchant for both cute and creepy things. I love the written word in all its whimsical ways. I love a good story and can tell one as well. Enjoy your day and your time on my page.
