Loki - Tom Hiddleston Pencil Illustration/Portrait

Last week I sat down and did a pen & ink portrait of actor Tom Hiddleston (who portrays the God of Mischief and general Evil/Trickery in the popular Marvel Comics Universe film adaptations - "Thor" and "The Avengers"). I found a really cool reference photo of Hiddleston and went from there. The final resulting image was OK... I captured the look - but not the depth/texture/layering I wanted. Pencil/graphite has a great advantage over pen & ink in my opinion for its ability to be blended and be used to create gradients. I decided to sit down and do another - this time in pencil. I will often work on 2 or 3 illustrations at the same time. This is a trick - a strategy I discovered - to keep from getting bored or burnt-out working on a single image. I worked on this portrait at the same time as I was finishing my Patrick Stewart portrait https://www.vingle.net/posts/1177100-Patrick-Stewart%0APencil-Illustration-Portrait - and I've started a new Scarlett Johansson graphite portrait.

This is another thing that I rarely do - draw the same image more than once. Typically - successful or not - I never look back. The exception is when I compare my current level of abilities and experience to that of decades ago = https://www.vingle.net/posts/598132-A-Message-To-Young-Artists

I really wanted to give this image another stab while it was still fresh in my mind. This is truly one of the only times I've done the same image twice. What do you all think? Which version do you like better? The newer pencil version is above - the pen & ink version below.
