Okay, so who isn't celebrating Thanksgiving this year? I heard rumors that people were boycotting the commercial aspect of it, opting for pizza and beer--too hell with the dishes, the not-as-good-as-mom-makes (fill in the blank dish here), the lines, the fever of activity through fingers on mobile devices...et al.
I can't say that I necessarily blame those who are on the brink of a meltdown over the commercialism of the holiday, but it is a great time to be with close friends and family, to cherish our loved ones, and to take a pause from the chaos of life and reflect on our many blessings. (We live in America, one of the most rich countries in the world!)
1/2 orange, halved
3 cups apple cider
2 cinnamon sticks
Brandy, to taste
Stud the orange halves with cloves. In a medium saucepan, bring the cider, cinnamon and oranges to a simmer. To serve, add a shot of brandy to a cup. Ladle in the hot cider and top with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
Like I said earlier, the update to this toddy is in the whipped cream.@Rodiziketan always stresses the benefits of fresh ingredients. I could not agree more. Therefore, make the whipped cream from scratch--it's easy--and you will have one of the best Thanksgiving's ever, even if it's not in the traditional sort of way!
