Defending Rurichiyo Kasumiōji

Is Rurichiyo Kasumiōji really that bad?

Hello Friends! It's time once again to defend another hated anime character. This time we are looking at the the infamous Rurichiyo Kasumiōji from Bleach and her story arc that everyone seems to love so much. My question to you of course is is she and her arc really that bad?

Lady Rurichiyo Herself

Lady Rurichiyo is the next head of the Kasumiōji clan and naturally sought after by many enemies especially being so young, she came to the land of the living with her servants Kenryu and Enreyu to avoid such confrontations.

What Makes He So Bad?

Being from a royal family it's only natural that Rurichiyo would have a spoiled attitude. She's demanding, picky, whiney and just plane rude; so I understand completely why people dislike her so much. When we first meet her, she can't even take care of herself and is always running away just looking for trouble.

What She Became

Like a lot of annoying characters, Rurichiyo grew over time, thanks to the help of Ichigo and company Rurichiyo learned that not everything in life is handed to you and you can't treat people any way you like. If you want respect you have to earn it and give it to others. Rurichiyo Became a very strong girl who is able to stand up for herself; unfortunately due to her size and lack of training she is captured quite easily but shows no fear when it happens. And let's not forget how talent at soccer (football) she is.

The Infamous Story Arc

It goes without saying that the Rurichiyo Kasumiōji story arc is no ones favorite in Bleach. Not only does it cut off the main saga (Arrancar saga) but compared to everything else it's kinda dull. When I first watched it I didn't care for it too much, I thought it was ok but I couldn't wait to get back to the main story arc. After watching it again I realized its not to bad, not great but pretty good. It introduces some interesting characters including the conniving villain in Gyōkaku Kumoi, a brand new and very respectable captain Shūsuke Amagai and Rurichiyo's fiancé Shu Kanogi who's just kind of there. Not to mention Lady Rurichiyo herself as well as Kenryu and Enryu.

The Story Arc Cont.

The Arc itself it's pretty by the numbers; it's a typical coming of age story with a revenge plot thrown in. All in all pretty typical but it does have some interesting fights as well as a cool new weapon the enemy uses that absorbs their spirit energy. It has some good comedy scenes and fun side stories. It's not perfect by any means but if you haven't done a second watch through of Bleach or skipped over it go back and watch this Arc it's actually quite fun and you'll most likely enjoy it more the second time around. In fact I like it better than the Bount saga but that's a rant for another day.

Do you agree? Am I way off base or out of line? Any character you want me to defend?

Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading friends and have a great day!
