So I made an agreement with her a few weeks earlier that I'd want 15 minutes of her time to show her a few kpop videos; which she willingly agreed to with no hesitation. So I asked her a couple days ago if we could do that and she said totally. So we pulled up YouTube on the TV and I started with War of Hormone. Her reaction?
Jaw dropped. She was immediately mesmerized by Rap Monster! About half way through after seeing all the guys she's like, "Ya know. Sometimes I wish I wasn't married so I could go like, bang some talented Koreans." I died from her sincerity as she said it because she wasn't joking! She followed this up with, "We could be like Harold and Kumar, but it'd be Sarah and Maddie Do Korea."
Now I was supposed to get 15 minutes. That's it. But did we stop there? Nope. She said, "Okay we're not ending it here so we'll do 3 for 3. 3 of yours and 3 of mine." She was severely disappointed when I ran out of BTS videos; we're talking solo videos, pre-debut, even just lyric videos. So I had to start doing videos from other singers! We started watching these at about 8:30 PM and stopped watching all these videos at 3:30 AM!
We did some B.A.P and Taeyang. She fell in love with Taeyang and got goosebumps the moment he started singing Eyes, Nose, Lips. She was very into his body and voice. She loved the message of One Shot, she said she was ready to cry when they were in the shoot out and begged me repeatedly to post it on her Facebook wall (the I Need You video made her want to cry as well.) She wanted me to post 1AM and BTS School of Tears as well. School of Tears reached her on a real level considering her kids are being bullied terribly in school so she wanted that one immensely. She watched a bunch of clips of J-Hope dancing and she loved that too. I showed the dance battle where Jimin rips his shirt off and she gasped and her eyes widened so much. I asked if she liked that and she just said, "Yeah..." That's all she could muster up to say because her mind died for a few seconds!
What's funny is she wanted to know what one specific video we watched was because she really wanted to rock out to it later on. She's like, "I don't give a shit if we have to watch every single one of these again, I want that song," which ended up being N.O and we pretty much did watch every video again, she eventually mentioned that it was one where Jimin does the flip and I was like seriously?! You could've said that sooner! But she just said, "Don't care; I like watching them." She took a video of the TV playing Boys In Luv and posted it on Facebook, no shame, she loved them! She respected them for keeping it real and having meaningful lyrics and a follow your dreams attitude. The fact that they write their lyrics, work with production, and sound like real hip hop and not Back Street Boys spoke to her. She thought they had immense talent.
Don't be afraid to show people things because even the most biased people may surprise you if you show them the right group!
