2016 is going to be a big year for games.
There are a lot of big releases scheduled for this year, some of which really catch my fancy. It seems to be a big year for exclusives on every side of the console divide. My attention is focused mostly on PS4 and PC releases, because those are the platforms I play on. Of course there are plenty noteworthy Xbone and multi-platform releases as well.
Anyway, one of the Playstation exclusives coming this year is the new Attack on Titan title for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. It doesn't have a solid release date yet, but it is scheduled for 2016.
Here's some gameplay footage from September's Tokyo Game Show:
What gets me hype more than anything else in this gameplay demo is the 3D Maneuver Gear action. The movement with the gas-fired cables looks intuitive in the gameplay, and that should be a big part of the game, considering how important it is to the members of the Scout Patrol and other military members in the anime.
It reminds me a little bit of the swinging mechanic in Spider Man 2. Spider Man 2 exists in my mind as the only movie tie-in that didn't suck. Really, it was marvelous. Swinging around in that game as spidey felt natural and intuitive, and I'm hoping that this AoT game feels the same way.
However, I do have some doubts about this game, if only because Koei Tecmo is the developer. For those of you who don't know, Koei Tecmo is the developer who makes the Dead or Alive games. They consist mostly of a weird emphasis on boob physics and how those physics can be weirdly shoehorned into fighting games and volleyball games.
As long as they remain faithful to existing character designs, it should be gravy. Though if I see a wildly disproportionate Mikasa silhouette, I won't be really all that surprised.
