Hey Vingle Nakama!!!
When I was younger, during my high school career, my closest friends and I all read the same manga/watched the same anime. That anime/manga was Katekyo Hitman Reborn! We all had various, different interests when it came to anime and manga but we all came together on this one.
I honestly can't remember who was the first one to start it. It was probably Jello (yes, that is his real name don't let anyone convince you otherwise) who got the ball rolling. We loved this manga. We loved the anime - it brought the best of the fights to life. We loved the Vongola Famiglia.
At a certain point, we all came to the decision that each of us as friends represented one of the characters in the Vongola X Famiglia. For those who are unfamiliar with the anime, here's a quick rundown: A young Japanese boy, Tsunayoshi Sawada, finds out he has been selected to be the 10th head of the Vongola mafia family when a diminutive tutor named Reborn comes to whip him into shape. Tsuna is reluctant at every turn, but along the way he brings together his friends as his close comrades, forming the new head of the Vongola family.
A big part of Tsuna's ascension is obtaining the Vongola rings, powerful items that are designated for the mafia leadership. Tsuna and co. manage to attain them and solidify even further their standings in the mafia family.
In any case, each of the rings are themed to a weather pattern, with the boss ring being the Vongola Ring of the Sky. The 6 other rings are: Sun, Rain, Cloud, Storm, Mist, and Lightning. My friends and I all determined where our strengths lie within this frame, and we bought a box set of the rings together for that purpose.
I would change the names of my friends, but I'm pretty sure they don't mind it. This is the way the character alignment broke down:
Sky Ring - Tsuna - Jello
Sun Ring - Ryohei - Leo
Rain Ring - Yamamoto - Me
Cloud Ring - Hibari - Esther
Storm Ring - Gokudera - Brian
Mist Ring - Chrome - Berrin
Lightning Ring - Reggi
All of the rings have their own characteristics, and the bearer of that ring does too. I won't go into detail about each of them, but I will tell you that the rain ring is for. The duty of the Vongola Guardian of the Rain is "to become a blessed shower that settles conflict and washes everything away." Yamamoto was the calmest, clear-headedest of the group, though mercilessly powerful on the battlefield.
Each of us with the rings were closest in personality to the character that bears the ring in the anime. It wasn't always a direct match, and really there were only 5 of us at the core and we more or less had two rings that were just in circulation, tenuously belonging to two of our other friends.
It's been a long time, and my little sister has since taken my old ring, because she likes the 'aesthetic' of it. But I will always remember Reborn not only for being an outstanding manga/anime, but for what it meant to me and my squad.
