Napoleon Diamond Necklace

Have you ever seen a more spectacular diamond necklace IN YOUR LIFE?! (I think not!)

The Napoleon Diamond Necklace contains 28 old mine cut diamonds with a pattern of pendeloque and briolette diamond pendants. In total, each of the 234 diamonds were sourced from Brazil and India, as they were the only significant diamond-producing locations known in the early 1800’s.

The necklace, as it turns out, was a gift to Napoleon’s second wife, the Archduchess Marie Louise of Austria, in 1811, at the birth to their first son. The necklace was commissioned from the French jewelry house, Nitot et Fils.

Through the passing of this necklace from Marie Louise to her sister-in-law, and through a few owners since, it remains at the Smithsonian Institution and is part of the Gem Collection there.

As soon as I saw it, I thought to myself, This would make the most wonderful gift from a groom to his bride on the wedding day! Marvelous!
