622 – The beginning of the Islamic calendar. 1790 – D.C. is established as the capital of US following the signing of the Residence Act. 1935 – The world's first parking meter is installed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (nooooooooo) 1945 – US detonates world's first nuclear weapon near Alamogordo, New Mexico. 1951 – The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger is published for the first time! 1979 – Saddam Hussein becomes president of Iraq 2004 – Millennium Park, Chicago, IL is opened by Mayor Daley (I'm from Chicago, and it's one of the best thing Daley did for this city!)
