Fresh Psychedelia From Kikagaku Moyo

Psychedelia is a manifestation of psychedelic drugs such as LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, mescaline and DMT. Which emerged during the mid-1960s and became an ideology and trend until 1970's among rock and roll, folk rock and blues rock bands in the United States and Britain. Influenced by the western bands, in the 60s and 70s psychedelic style become a big trend in Japan. But, there's lack of drug culture and never really been a drug culture that would tie up psychedelic in Japan. But, Japanese psychedelic musicians get the point of psychedelic music. It's about freedom, inner peace, and spirituality. Kikagaku Moyo is one of Japanese psychedelia in the 21st century. The members have the same style as 70s rock bands, from top to toe. The music feels 'clean' if compared to mainstream rock bands in the era of psychedelic culture, such as The Animals, The Beatles, Procol Harum, The Doors, and Pink Floyd.

Five brave and confident Tokyo boys, Go Kurosawa (drums/vocals), Tomo Katsurada (guitar/vocals), Daoud Akira (guitar), Kotsu Guy (bass), and Ryu Kurosawa (Sitar) have been touring US and Europe. They are not sing in Japanese nor English. Just sing sounds in psychedelic-folk rock music. Formed in 2012, Kikagaku Moyo's first record (Self-titled) was released on August 20, 2013 by Cosmic Eye/Sound Effect records based in Greece. Their second LP, Forest of Lost Children was released on May 20, 2014 by Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records based in Brooklyn, New York.

Due to high demand their S/T record was reissued on Cassette tape by Burger Records and a new tape by the name of Mammatus Clouds was released on the eclectic Sky Lantern Records in Tucson, Arizona. Mammatus Clouds was pressed onto 12" LP by both Cardinal Fuzz Records (UK) and Captcha Records (US) in June 2014. In 2015, members of the band started the record label Guruguru brain which focus on the Asian music scene. Kikagaku Moyo produced progressive sounds with their instruments, especially the sitar. In 2016, they released new record, House In The Tall Grass, which has significant change. It feels dreamy and calmer than previous records.
