Wow! I've reached the halfway point already!? I'm really not big on Ghibli. I'm actually not big on anime movies in general, not because I don't like them, but because I prefer the smaller chunks of 25-ish minute episodes. While I can appreciate the general animation style of Studio Ghibli, it's not really my style. Plus, I think Studio Ghibli tends to be aimed at a younger audience such that it doesn't appeal to me much. But this is only based on preconceptions; I have only seen a few Ghibli works, so grain of salt. As always, wide open for recommendations!
Princess Mononoke
Looking ahead at this prompt, I did some research so that I could have something to talk about for today. In the ranking I saw, this was the top rated Studio Ghibli film, so I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed! Princess Mononoke is intense, with lots of spiritual elements, fantastic characters, exciting (and sort of graphic) action scenes, and a touch of humor. I'd heard that Hayao Miyazaki was big on strong female characters, and this film certainly delivered on that in spades (almost too much at times, in my opinion...), and Ashitaka is so caring and considerate and, above all, respectful, he puts pretty much all Disney princes to shame! I definitely feel like this is one of those movies that would have given me nightmares as a kid, like Road to El Dorado (the end of that movie terrified me when I was little! It's not anime, but I recommend it anyway! I think it's still on Netflix...)! I don't have much to compare this to as far as Studio Ghibli goes, but I would definitely watch this again!
As always, hope you enjoyed! If you wanna learn more about me/ be my friend/ be tagged in these, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm nice, I swear (mostly ;p)! Or I guess you can follow my 100 Days of Anime collection, or both if you feel so inclined!
Until next time!
