“Tell her you’re taken.”
“Calm down Jagi, I’m okay.”
“That’s not the point. I can feel how uncomfortable you are with her advances, it’s not okay.”
“Practice is almost over, I’ll be fine.”
You get up and begin to pace around the living room, studying long forgotten. Who did he say he was doing a duet with for his new solo album? You wish you could remember and you wish she’d keep her blasted hands to herself. All morning you’ve been getting hit by random flashes of discomfort and guilt. It confused you until you checked his schedule and figured out he was at a song practice with a female idol.
You try to focus back on your school work when Ravi walks in and collapses in the chair across from you. He looks stunned and more than a little disheveled.
“What’s up with you?”
He looks up at you but instead of seeing you, seems to look through you.
You wave your hand in front of his face, but he doesn’t even blink. You get up and walk over to him, concerned at his non-reaction.
“Earth to Ravi! Hey, you’re beginning to worry me. Hey!” you put your hand on his leg and his eyes zero in on you.
“Oh, hey. What’s up?”
You look at him questioningly, “What’s up? That’s my question. You walk in here like a zombie, collapse in the chair, and stare right through me. You haven’t heard a word I’ve said.”
“Really?” He looks around the room, scrubs his face with his hands and them rests them in his hair. “Sorry. I’m just so wiped. I had the craziest dreams last night.”
Instead of moving back to your seat you simply sit down cross legged in front of him. “Tell me all about them. I’m supposed to be studying but it’s obviously not going to happen, so entertain me.”
You look up at him with rapt attention. It works as he smiles and gives a little laugh. You try again...
“So what did you dream about? Reptar invading Japan? Pterodactyl’s flying away with Hyuk? Burying N in a mountain of snow?”
He’s now full on laughing and holding his stomach.
“Stop! No...I wish, but no. I dreamed about a woman.”
You sit up straighter, all kidding aside.
“You’re dreaming? That’s wonderful! Who is she?”
“That’s just the thing. I don’t know. I can’t see her face.”
“What? How is that possible?”
“I don’t know. That’s what has me so confused. I woke up in that place that you all talk about and there she was. She had some kind of head covering on and I could only see her eyes. So weird.”
“A hijab? Could she be Arabic?”
He shakes his head. “No, that’s not possible. We’ve never been anywhere near there. And it didn’t cover all her hair, just like a veil I guess, over her face; kind of like we wear our dust masks.”
“Hm. Okay, but why would she hide from you? That doesn’t make any sense. Did she talk to you at least?”
“Not really. We spent the whole time just kind of staring at each other. It would wake me up and then when I went back to sleep, I’d end up right back there again.” He looks up at you with confused eyes, “What’s going on?”
“I don’t know. That’s really strange, even for you." He looks at you disgruntled and turns his head away, chin in hand.
"Let me look into it and talk to Narumi, maybe her culture has heard something about what it could be. We'll figure it out.”
He nods, his head throw back over the edge of the chair.
You reach over and ruffle his hair, “What’s your schedule today?”
“It’s a break day thankfully. Not sure I could function much if I had anything else.”
“Good. Why don’t you lay down and take a nap?”
He shakes his head, “I’m afraid to. Everytime I close my eyes, she’s there. I'm not getting any sleep.”
“Are you scared of her?”
“No. It’s just unnerving. She just stares at me. I’ve tried talking to her, but she never responds. Wouldn’t that unnerve you?”
