This started off as a fluff for the contest, but it somehow took a turn. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I awoke to see Baekhyun staring down at me with a guilty expression on his face. As I sat up and stretched, I noticed there were now palm trees gracing the side of the highway and it was fully light out. It was quiet in the van, a little too quiet. I suppose I wasn't the only one sleeping, but to have Baekhyun quiet, there is something wrong.
“Spill it Baek. What is going on? What aren't you telling me? You are acting way too weird.”
“Y/N, now don't get upset. We, umm...uhhh, kind of lost your boyfriend, ” Baekhyun stammered.
“WHAT?!?!?! What do you mean lost my boyfriend? Where's Suho?” I yelled as I looked at the empty seat behind me.
“Well that's just it Y/N, we hope he's in the other van in front of us,” Chanyeol said from the driver's seat.
“Wait a minute, back up and explain. Why isn't Suho sleeping in the seat behind me? That's where he was last I saw him.” I was really getting upset and these guys weren't making sense.
“I'm sorry Y/N. We just noticed Suho wasn't in the van a few minutes ago, just as you woke up. I'm calling his phone now,” said Chen from the passenger's seat. “I'll put it on speaker.”
We heard Chen's phone connect and begin ringing, but the next sound was Lotto coming from the seat behind me. I reached over the seat and under the blanket to find Suho's ringing phone. I'm sure my face said it all, because next to his phone was Suho's wallet. Suho doesn't usually go anywhere without his wallet and phone. I kept telling myself that I wasn't going to panic and that Suho was just fine. Baekhyun slid in to the bench seat next to me and put his arm around me without saying a word. I could hear Chen whispering in to his phone, but I couldn't make out the words. He must have reached someone in the other van.
I am not sure if I should scream, cry, or throw something. I opted for none of the above and instead spoke in a cold monotone. “Tell me what's going on guys. Is Suho in the other van? Where the hell is my boyfriend?”
“Um, well he's not with the others. That means we don't know exactly where he is. It looks like we left him about an hour back at the last gas station,” Chanyeol calmly spoke. “ I am so sorry. But don't worry Y/N we'll find him.”
Chanyeol had the turn signal on and began to exit off the ramp. I could see the other van directly in front of us and there seemed to be lots of movement going on inside. Baekhyun removed his arm from my shoulder and started inching away from me.
“Oh no you don't Baek,” I said as I gripped Baehyun's arm probably rather painfully.
“Y/N, it's not my fault,” Baekhyun whined. “Don't take it out on me. I'm as worried as you are.”
Chanyeol pulled in to the parking lot of a McDonald's next to the other EXO van. I
kept a tight grip on Baekhyun's arm as we all exited the van. PD Nim and the other five guys were already standing in a semicircle. No one was saying a word and no one would look at me.
“So let me get this straight. While I was sleeping you LOST my boyfriend and your leader in a foreign country without him having his phone or his wallet. His English is pretty good but it's not THAT good. Has someone figured out where you LEFT him yet? What are we doing to get him back?” At this point I think I was a little hysterical and a lot angry.
Xuimin spoke up. “Y/N I have a receipt from the last gas station so I think I know where he is.”
“You mean where you left him.”
“It wasn't me. I'm not in your van. Blame Chanyeol, Chen, and Baekhyun for leaving Suho behind,” Xuimin accused. I could feel Baekhyun tense up at Xuimin's accusation but none of the three of them said a word.
“We'll deal with blame and responsibility later. Let's just go get Suho before things get worse. We'll split up. One van keeps going towards our destination while the other one goes back for Suho,” decided PD Nim.
“I'm going back to find my boyfriend,” I stated in no uncertain terms.
“Do I have any volunteers to go back with Y/N? And since you were the driver Chanyeol, I would strongly suggest you should be one of the volunteers. One more should go to make sure Y/N doesn't kill Channy and dump his body before they reach Suho,” PD Nim states.
Of coarse there were no volunteers, not that I blame any of them. I don't know if I'd want to ride with me for the next few hours either. It was decided that the loser of kai bai bo would have to ride back. No one won the first round, but on the second, Kai and a very visibly relieved Baekhyun were out. The third round gave relief to Chen and Lay, leaving Xiumin and Sehun sweating bullets. The oldest and the youngest stared at each other trying to figure out what the other would throw.
“Kai bai bo.” Both threw scissors.
“Kai bai bo.” A huge smile adorned Sehun's face as he quickly realized his rock smashed Xiumin's scissors.
Without a word, Xiumin climbed in to the driver's seat of our unoccupied van. Channy and I quickly followed, with me climbing in to the passenger's seat and Channy slipping quietly in to the back. The rest of the guys and PD Nim waved at us as we exited the parking lot, heading back north.
It was a quiet ride as no one felt like talking. The radio was on just loud enough to give some background noise. It's then I started to think about the last 12 hours and how we ended up here.
EXO gave their last American Concert for their tour in Atlanta last night at the Cobb Energy Center. It was completely sold out, and even last minute tickets weren't available. I was so lucky Suho had made sure to ask for one performer ticket, or I would have had to watch from backstage. The boys rocked the house and the encores ended up going on longer than usual. Instead of heading to a hotel, we had already planned on driving down to Florida. We figured we could spend a few days at Disney World before having to fly back to Korea. Driving down was so much cheaper than flying, and we had enough people with international driver's licenses that we could just take turns. We didn't need to stop for rest until we arrived in Orlando, as there was enough room with two vans that we could take turns sleeping on the bench seats.
Let's see, I remember driving around 4 am, while Suho was navigator. It was about 6 am when we all stopped for breakfast at a Waffle House near the Georgia/Florida border. Suho let me have the middle seat to lay on while he took the back seat when we got back in the van. It was finally our turn to get some sleep. He gave me a kiss and covered me up with a blanket. That's all I remember. Oh wait. I vaguely remember stopping again, and Suho getting out to pay for gas. That must be when he was left. But if he went to pay for gas, then why is his wallet here? No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't remember anything else. I do know if anything happens to my Suho, Channy will not live to see sunset. He will be alligator food....or shark bait. It will be whichever is more painful.
“Y/N, we're getting close to Lake City. Start looking for a Racetrack gas station on the signs” Xiumin spoke up knocking me out of my thoughts. I could hear soft snoring, so I knew Channy was out. He'd better enjoy it now, because I don't know what Suho is going to do to him once we find him.
We passed two different Lake City exits before I saw a Racetrack billboard. Oh thank God! This has to be the right exit. “Get ready to exit Xiumin,” I said excitedly as I started bouncing around in my seat.
“Calm down Y/N” Xiumin chuckled with the most expression I've seen from him today.
Xiumin slowed down on the exit ramp, put the turn signal on, and came to stop at the top. When traffic was clear, he took a deep breath and turned left. We passed over the bridge and I saw the Racetrack up on our right. By now I'm getting excited and my breathing has picked up. Channy woke up with a start as Xiumin suddenly turned in to the parking lot and came to a halt at the first available spot. Both of us dove out the doors and ran towards the gas station. I didn't know where Channy was, nor did I care. The bell above the door rang as Xiumin yanked it open. He let me enter first, but Xiumin had a hand on my back giving me a slight push. We both looked around and spotted Suho at the same time sitting in one of the only booths in the far back, near the in house Subway. He was reading a book and sipping on a drink.
“Suho” I yelled and started running towards him. He looked from his book with a big smile on his face.
“Baby, you're here. You finally came back for me. I guess you did miss me after all.” Suho said as he stood up knowing what would happen next.
I threw myself in to his arms, hugging him tight. I was not going to let him out of my sight again. Suho chuckled and kissed my forehead as I held on to him for dear life. Tears started to overflow cascading down my cheeks.
“Oh baby. I'm fine. It's okay. Everything is okay now” he kept repeating as he kissed away my tears.
Xiumin stood watching the two of us with slight embarrassment, but then excused himself to use the restroom. I heard Channy clear his throat. I don't even know when he arrived, but how dare he interrupt after all he's done. Yes, I was still angry with him for this whole mess.
“Um Suho, I am really, really sorry. I know it's all my fault. I didn't check to make sure you were back in the van. I didn't mean it. It was an accident. I'm so sorry about...” Channy rambled on.
Suho put up his hand and cut Channy off saying, “It's partially my fault too. I dropped my stuff back in the van before I ran in to use the bathroom. When I came out, the vans were gone. I realized I was screwed, as I didn't have anything with me. Believe me, I was angry for the first 10 minutes or so, then I realized I had a hand in being left also. I was lucky other travelers felt sorry for me, as did the employees. Someone gave me a book to read, another person bought me a drink, and the staff allowed me to just sit here and wait. It gave me a chance to see if I could really use my English, and it also gave me time to think. I realize I'm extremely lucky, and I knew Y/N wouldn't stop until she found me.” He kissed my forehead again.
Channy looked relieved, until he happened to glance at me. I was still giving him the death glare. Just because Suho has forgiven him doesn't mean I have. I still think he needs a date with an alligator.
“So you're the people that left this poor boy here for hours” I heard a woman's voice say behind me.
“I'm so sorry. It was an accident. You see I was sleeping, and the idiots I was riding with...”
She cut me off saying, “There is no need to explain. I'm just glad you're back for him. It wasn't a big deal for us. Actually, it's our excitement for the week, and we'll be talkin' about this for a while.”
Suho went and paid back the money for his drink, while Xiumin ordered us some subs to take along for the ride. We're at least 2 hours behind the other van, so we needed to get going. Suho made Channy drive and Xuimin sit in the passenger's seat. Poor tired Xiumin dozed off right away. That left me and Suho in the back to just sit and cuddle....with the occasional kiss thrown in. At some point we both dozed off, Suho safe, with my arms wrapped tightly around him.
