Flash 6.... (Okay, not really a flash but go with it.....)~
Ripped black skinny jeans, blank white shirt, and my favorite grey sweatshirt. That's all I need right? It's gonna be cold isn't it? Aishh. I should get my coat too.... But where was it? No no, it's gonna be warm today anyways. Hmmm. Maybe I should wear a long sleeve....
I shake my head to erase the idea. There's no time. I have to be ready before he arrives, or else, I'd have to invite him inside. I shiver at the thought then turn around to find my converse under the bed.
I gather my things quickly after slipping them an and head out the door, instantly colliding with something tall and hard.
"Sail! Awww! Were you this excited to see me!" My ears rang with his playful chuckle while he hugged me tightly.
"No," I answered, pushing away. "I was going to meet you at the entrance so you wouldn't have to come up here.... How'd you know which apartment was mine?"
He grinned from ear to ear. "I asked noona."
My mouth opened to ask which one but I knew he wouldn't tell. Why even bother. I'd have to track down that particular noona myself and I knew exactly where to start.
"Come on! If we hurry now, there won't be a line for the concession stand!" He chuckled and gently tugged on my sweater so I could follow him.
I won't lie, it's interesting. He's a complete dork and yet gentle. I expected him to force me to talk but even I could tell that he was enjoying the silence. Was it awkward? No. It didn't feel awkward at all. It felt.... fine.
I shivered at the thought.
"Hmm? Are you okay? Would you like my jacket?" He asked me, grabbing onto his leather jacket to pull it off. I wave my hand.
"No, it's okay. It was just a random shiver."
"Mmm. Wear more layers next time, Sail. It'd be troublesome if you caught a cold on my watch."
I snort. "I don't catch colds. My immune system is strong enough to take on Jojo eonni when she has her infamous flu sessions."
Bunny chuckled. "You're funny Sail."
For the rest of the journey we walked in silence. Side by side, never bothering each other, traveling in our own worlds. Why wasn't he talkative? Was he shy? No no, it's Bunny. He's never shy. Maybe he's just giving me space so I don't run away. Would I run away? Hell no, I'd have a crazed eonni and a panther chasing me till the ends of the Earth.
We arrive at the movie theater, and like Bunny predicted, it was empty.
"I'll pay for our tickets, go on inside," he smiled at me.
"Oh. Okay, I'll pay for the popcorn then," I bow my head to excuse myself and enter the theater, moving over to the side to wait for him. The theater was grand, almost as big as my apartment complex but Bunny was already by my side before I could get too distracted by the building.
"Popcorn?" He asked while I still looked around.
I look up at him, "Coke."
"How about candy?"
"Junior Mints if there's any."
He chuckled. "You like chocolate and mint?"
My eyebrows furrow. "So what if I do?"
"That's cute, Sail," he continued chuckling as he walked towards the concession stand.
I flinched, trialing after him. "What? Why?"
"Hello, can we get two medium cokes, a large bag of popcorn, and a box of Junior Mints?" He said to the man standing behind the concession stand.
I unzipped my bag and pulled out my wallet, only to get pushed back by Bunny's hand as he pulled out his wallet again.
"Yaah! I said I'd pay since you covered tickets!"
"Shush little panda. Oppa is paying."
I slip under him and slide my debit card to the cashier. "Take it please-"
"No. He's taking mine. Here sir, don't mind this one over here." He grabbed my card from the counter and pushed me back. I yanked my card from his hand as the cashier obeyed Bunny with a smirk on his face.
"What the hell Jiwon?" I growled under my breath.
Bunny turned towards me with a eyebrows shot up. "Excuse me? Did you just say-"
"Jiwon. Yes. What the hell!?"
With the same arm he pushed me away with, he wrapped it around my shoulders and brought me in for a tight hug, pressing his lips into my hair. "I asked you on this date. I pay. Now be a good panda or you get aegyo."
I swallow hard. "I'll be good."
And with that, he lets me go only to hand me my mints and my drink. I bow politely to the cashier then follow Bunny into a large hallway where he takes a seat down on a bench in front of a grand door.
"We're not going inside?" I ask, looking at him then glancing over at the doors.
"I miscalculated our arrival." He chuckled playfully.
I raise an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"We're an half an hour early."
I tilt my head back to keep him from seeing me roll my eyes. This was sooo not accidental.
"Sit with me. If we run out of food, I'll go buy more." He scooted over and patted the space where he was. "I warmed it for you."
My lips twitched. An almost betrayal but I fought back the smile and sat down beside him.
Bunny took out his headphones from his pocket and handed them to me. "Plug in your phone. I'll listen to whatever."
I grab my phone and unlock it, instantly raise an eyebrow. "You texted me?"
"Yeah, I was telling you I was on my wa- what is that?"
I glance up at him, finding the most mischievous smile on his lips. "What's what?"
Immediately, I feel the heat building in my cheeks. "Yeah. So?"
"You don't call me oppa, but you call me Bunny and Bun Buns?"
I nod slowly.
"Why?" He bites his lip to hide his amusement but I knew all too well, he was dying with laughter inside.
"Because calling you Bun Buns keeps me from confusing you with other Bunnies."
He raised an eyebrow. "Why don't you just call me Jiwon oppa? or Bobby oppa?"
My cheeks get hotter. "Because....."
He kept staring at me as if his eyes were searching deep into my soul for answers I didn't wish to answer on the spot. "Because why?"
"You didn't hear it? I answered with silence."
Bunny laughed. "So why did you call me Jiwon earlier?"
"Because that's your name."
"Then just call me Jiwon."
I shake my head. "It's disrespectful. You're older than me."
"Then add, 'oppa' at the end."
Once again, my head shook on its own. "I can't."
I stare back at him, blinking twice to give me an extra few seconds to find an excuse. "Because you're Bun Buns to me."
Bunny sighed heavily then pulled me in for another hug. "Have you always been this cute, Sail?"
"Yaah!" I yank myself back. "I'm not cute! Chill or I walk my ass home!"
"You walk home and I won't leave you alone."
Damn. He was right. "Fine."
Bunny took my phone from my hand and inserted the headphones, followed by clicking on my music app to search for songs.
I opened my box of mints and popped one into my mouth, slouching in my seat as I adjusted the headphone he handed to me into my ear.
"A lot of Kpop here," he snickered.
"Yup. I'm trash."
"Oh? You have this song?"
"Which one?" I sat up to glance at my phone. "Oh, Sunday Candy? Yeah, why?"
"I love this song!" He beamed brightly.
"Yeah," I smiled back. "I do too. It's in multiple playlists for when I need an extra surge of energy."
Out of the headphones, the familiar piano tune began, making me hum along while Bunny rapped the introduction. He began swaying back and forth, bumping into me until his hand sung over my shoulders and made me sway from side to side with him.
Before I knew it, I was singing the chorus with him. He took the candy from my hand and used it shake the box on the down beat while I clapped my hands, singing like an idiot. Yes, an idiot. An overly happy idiot.
The grand chorus finished, causing me to end with a giggle as Bunny ended laughing too.
"See? We get along great!"
I nod softly, pressing my lips into a thin line. "Mmmhmm.
"No, Sail, seriously. Why don't you like me?"
"Because you're dangerous?"
"Dangerously good lookin?"
I go from snorting to laughing so hard, I'm clutching my stomach.
"You calling me ugly?"
"No," I wipe away an emerging tear. "That just completely caught me off guard."
He grinned. "I make you laugh and yet you don't like me."
"It's not that I don't like you..... I just can't be around for too long," I reach for my mints, flinching back when he moves it away from my reach.
"Tell me why and I'll give you your candy back."
"Why? "Because you're bad for my health."
He stared at me with a blank expression, completely confused by my answer. "How?"
I shake my head. "Let's not talk about that plea-"
"But if we don't then you'll never tell me and this will be as close as I'll ever get to you."
"Why do you care?" I fumed.
Jiwon dropped his head and stared at his feet, then slowly lifted his head up to lean it against the wall behind us until he turned to look at me again. "Because Sail. You're my Sunday Candy." A broad bunny smile instantly appeared on his lips.
"Oh. My god. Are you serious right now?"
He began to laugh, hard.
"You're just toying with me right now aren't you? That's it, I'm leaving." I try to get up to walk away but his arm around my shoulder gets heavy and forces me down.
"Nope, You're staying. But seriously Sail-"
I roll my eyes. "Oh please, there's not seriousness with you."
"No," he grinned. "but just for this moment, there is. Sailynn. I know why you're called Sailynn."
I cover my face with my hands. "Don't say it plea-"
"Because you're meant to Sail into my heart." He breaks out laughing again as I shake my head and try to wiggle out from under his arm. Bunny moves his arm to wrap around my waist. "There's no escaping."
"Not tonight, but after this, you're not allowed to bother me again. You promised."
"Do you really want that?"
I turned immediately to look at him. His voice had gotten colder and he was no longer looking at me. "Uh- but what I mean is-"
The doors flew open. Out came the people from the previous showing, excited talking about the movie, making Bunny and I invisible, but I didn't care. I couldn't stop looking at him. Did my words really effect him that much? We were just joking, right?
"Here. Let's get a good seat." He handed me my mints and got up to head into the theater.
I entered the dark room, blinded by darkness, my hands tried to find a wall to lean on, but instead, something warm touched my hands.
"Watch your step."
His voice cold but gentle. Was he mad? Oh god, he's mad isn't he?
"Jiwon, I'm kidding. You know I'm kidding right?"
Complete silence and total darkness.
The screen flashed with a bright light. For a moment, I was blinded again but the grip around my hand grew tighter. I followed until what felt like a seat and sat down. As my vision restored, bright letters on the screen appeared, asking the audience to quiet down as the movie began.
"That was fast," I chuckled nervously, glancing over at Bunny who sat beside me as quiet as ever.
The trailers began, forcing everything to be silent one more time.
Throughout the entire movie, not a single word came out of his mouth. We were alone in the theater, probably every fangirl's dream, but here I was, being tortured for taking the joke too far with the one man that joked 24/7.
"It's late. I'll walk you home, okay?" Jiwon moved ahead of me.
"Th-thanks," I stuttered.
We were no longer walked side by side. He was always a couple of steps ahead of me, silent. This time, it was awkward. This time, I shivered, not because of some random chill, but because it had truly gotten cold.
I stood before my apartment door and unlocked it, flickering on the lights and kicking off my shoes.
"No one home?" He asked sternly.
I shook my head. "No, I'm alone."
"Kay. I'll see you then."
"Oh, and Sailynn." Jiwon stopped and turned his head back to me.
"Don't worry. Bunny keep his promise."
And just like that, he walked away. Should I have ran after him? Yes. I absolutely should have. But for the first time in my life, my legs were tired.
And I, I could no longer bring myself to run.
