Salses Fortress

At the foot of Corbières, this fortress is a jewel of Spanish military architecture. Built at the end of the 15th century. by order of the Catalan kings Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella of Castile to protect the borders from the French. It has a reputation as an impregnable fortress, in 1691 it was redone by the famous French military architect Vauban. Nowadays it is accessible for visiting and is included in the list of historical monuments protected by the state.


Monastery of Serrabo (le prieuré Serrabone): stands in the middle of an oak grove, built in the 11th century in a Romanesque style of pink marble. The monastery is surrounded by a botanical garden with Mediterranean plants.
