One of the most important things you can do to grow a fanbase is to start listening to other people's music.
As a Streaming writer, I love to hear what other artists are listening to, and here's how to find out who your peers might be
First, go to Pop Music's Streaming section and then click on the People tab. Once you see a list of artists that you like, click on their Pop Music link for their profile page. Each artist's profile page has a link that takes you to their entire profile page, and you can browse it if you want.
Keep in mind, some artists (like The Killers) are pretty clear in their “Pop Music” and won't have any secret messages. But if there's a gray area, try a different Streaming service. Spotify is the easiest one to use, and it's the only one that offers a search feature. If you want to search for artists by genre, there are several options, including Spotify Play Music, Rdio, MixCloud and MOG. A similar feature exists on YouTube Music, but it's not as elegant as Spotify's.
If you're still having a tough time figuring out who your new favorite artists are, there's an easy way to find out. Open up Spotify's free app, and select Tools > Browse Streaming. From there, you can scroll down and select Advanced Options, which will show you who your friends are listening to. You can even get a list of songs they've listened to from their Pop Music.
