Gopchang Story!

If you're like me, you like trying new things. But to tell you the truth, I was a little nervous about eating gopchang, which are grilled intestines in Korea. My friend has tried it multiple times & told me of this very popular place called 곱창이야기 (Gopchang Story). Judging by the way this place looked from the outside, it was extremely popular. Every single table was full of hungry customers and they all looked like they were having a great time. I put my name on the list & there's an hour long wait because 5 groups are ahead of me! That's when I realized that this place must be popular for a reason -- and it WAS! We ordered gopchang that you grill in a stone pot. It also came with pieces of extremely delicious and savory rice cakes and potatoes. The side dishes were very unique as they came with blood links and snail skin! Sounds weird, but surprisingly VERY tasty! Also, a tasty and hot kimchi jjigae is given as well! The interior is quite cramped, but you get a communal feel, which I like. Also, the walls have lots of writing on them from previous customers. If you ask the owner for a permanent marker, he will let you write on the walls as well! I ventured out and tried my first bite of gopchang - it was absolutely delicious. Especially when dipped in the spicy sauce, it was heaven in my mouth! Afterwards, we finished off the meal with some fried rice and makgulli (traditional Korean rice alcohol). Both were very delicious and filling! All in all, very good experience - and I'll definitely be back again! For those who are skeptical (as I once was), don't be! It really is worth the wait AND the food is amazing!
