Tamilnadu MBBS Admission - Admission Procedure

The Tamil Nadu admission process for the year 2020, will be conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu. The admission will be allotment between, 7400 MBBS seats and 2873 BDS seats. The application form will be released only in the 1st week of June, 2020. Through the allotment, the candidates will be allotted seats in 49 medical and 29 dental colleges.

Eligibility criteria for MBBS Admission and BDS in Tamil Nadu

The eligibility criteria are as follows,

1. The candidate needs to be a minimum of 17 years and a maximum of 25 years of age before 31st December, 2020.

2. The candidate needs to complete their 12th board examination with an aggregate of 50% with Physics, Chemistry and biology with English being the main subject.

3. The category which falls under reserved, general, ST, SC and OBC the candidate must obtain 40% and Persons with Disability, (PwD) must secure 45%.

4. The applying candidate should be an Indian

5. The candidate must be a bonafide resident of India

6. For the candidates who have perused their education between 6th and 12th grade, don’t have to submit their certificate of nativity. They are required to submit their parent’s Birth Certificate, Ration Card, their 10th and 12th certificates or their no graduation certificate if applicable.

7. Candidates from other states, living in TN, will get admission only under open category.

Application process for MBBS Admission in Tamil Nadu

The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) will release the application form in their official websites. The candidates who are falling under the criteria can fill in the application. After the filing of forms the candidates have to provide the required documents.

The students need to create a login ID and password where his/her details need to be filed and deposit their documents such as certificate and marks of 10th and 12th, NEET scorecard and photographs.

After submission students can take a printout of the filled form. The procedure comes to an end with the payment of admission fee online which is INR 500 for government colleges and INR 1000 for private colleges.

Counselling process for MBBS Admission and BDS in Tamil Nadu

The counselling process for the medical students take place in the governance of 2 government bodies, i.e. All India Quota (AIQ) which is a central body that takes care of 15% of the seats. And the remaining 85% is taken care by the DME in Tamil Nadu which is under the state quota. There are 3 rounds of counselling to allocate seats to the candidates, round 1, round 2 and the mock – up round where the seats are allocated to the candidates under several criteria. The seats which aren’t allocated go back to the respective college and become management quota, used for direct admission.

The candidates in the process of counselling have to fill in a form which mentions about their preferences of courses and colleges. The choices can be any in number. Based on the rank scored, reservation, the merit list produced by the authorities, number of seats available, the candidate may or may not be admitted.

MBBS Direct admission in Tamilnadu

The process of direct admission is done by the college themselves under the management quota. The criterion of admission under direct admission is the same as the counselling process.

Documents required for MBBS or BDS Admission 2020

1. Printout of NEET 2020 admit card of the candidate

2. Score card of NEET

3. Class 10 mark sheet (printout of both sides) of the candidate

4. Both sides printout of Class 11 mark sheet of the candidate

5. Mark sheet of class 12 with both sides printout of the candidates

6. Transfer certificate of school last attended by the candidate

7. Certificate of proof of study from Class 6 to 12 by the aspiring candidate

8. Nativity certificate for candidates who have studied Class 6 to 12 outside the state if applicable

9. Parent’s certificate as mentioned above for those who are the domicile of the state

10. Permanent community certificate, if applicable for the candidate

11. First graduate certificate, if required by the institution

12. Special category form with an additional form of Rs. 100 via Bank payment portal or through Demand Draft in favour of The Secretary, Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai - 600 010, payable at Chennai by the candidate.
