SARS-CoV-2 is growing rapidly in many parts of the world, the CDC has recommended wearing a face mask when going out in public or when you are with other people. Face coverings or masks can prevent the wearer from transmitting the COVID-19 virus to others and offer protection to the wearer also.
We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed people's lives. Many of us are stay at home, avoid meeting friends or relatives, and change our daily habits in many ways we never thought of, such as not going to school, working remotely, etc.
At the beginning of the pandemic, people were told not to wear masks. N95, KN95, or medical masks are not enough to protect users from a variety of respiratory pathogens, as well as there was limited supply to transfer it from medical institutions. But after doing tireless efforts, CDC has recommended to the only way to control the spread of viruses is to wear a face mask.
Below we have mentioned some important notes, about how mask is crucial to protect us from coronavirus.
· Masks and face coverings can prevent the wearer from spreading the COVID-19 virus to others, and can provide users with certain protection. Several studies have shown that facial coverings may contain droplets expelled by users, which are the main reason for the spread of the virus. This "source control" approach reflects a shift in thinking from a "medical" perspective (will it protect users?) to a "public health" perspective (which will help reduce community transmission and risk for everyone?).
· Many people infected with COVID-19 do not know that they are carrying the virus with them. It is estimated that 40% of COVID-19 patients are asymptomatic, but may spread the virus to others. Without extensive screening, we cannot identify many people who spread
· Wearing a mask can prevent anyone (including those who unknowingly carry the virus) from spreading it to others, thereby greatly reducing the spread of the virus in the community. Masks worn by large portions of the population combined with other measures may significantly reduce the number of cases and deaths throughout the world.
· Universal mask use should be accompanied by other public health measures such as maintaining social distancing, following hands hygiene, contact tracing, and restrictions on large gatherings.
