Children perceive adult emotions much more than you and I can imagine. I once had a patient who came to me with a very strange complaint. She said, "my son asked me yesterday, why I was angry with him all the time?" Read on to find out how we dealt with the problem...
She told me, surprisingly, that she was quiet a calm person and never really angry at him or anybody else! Then why would he perceive her as an angry person?
She had a constant frown on her face. And every time she spoke, it became even more prominent.
I sat her down and explained to her, "a frown is associated with the negative emotion of anger". So, though she was never really angry, her 7 year old son thought she was. And it bothered him to see her that way everyday.
Then came the waiting game. Botox takes at least 3 days to take effect and I didn't hear from her for a week.
