This crit racer saves himself from pedal strike while near the front of the pack. Unfortunately he causes a few riders behind him to break hard and crash out so close to the finish. Kind of a bitter sweet save. Pedal strike occurs when your pedal is in the down position during a hard turn. However, a number of factors can influence pedal strike. Bottom bracket height and crank arm length will determine how hard you can corner with the pedal down before pedal strike occurs. In order to be safe, stop pedaling during a turn and have your inside pedal be at the 12:00 position. Or, if you are keen on pedaling through a turn, make sure to time your pedal stroke so pedal strike does not occur, however, this takes some practice to perfect.
