Where did maxi dresses come from?
Maxi dresses maybe have been around for longer than is known. They were first famous in the 16th century and worn by the Edwardian women. Maxi dresses were voluminous mounds of polyester and steel frames underneath for an exaggerated look that was anything but easy to carry. These dressers had fully tiered skirts at the bottom, and the tops were also uncomfortably fitted. It was not until the early 1960's that the maxi dresses came back. It was not anything close to how it was in the early years of the maxi dress.
Designer Oscar de la Renta introduced simplistic maxi dresses with frills and funky patterns. His take on maxi dresses was iconic, and the New York times concluded it to be a fashion hit. Many other designers followed him, and the fashion world grew more familiar with maxi dresses. These maxi dresses were slowly replaced in the 80s with midi and mini skirts. The 90s saw an increased fashion trend on mini skirts that were so popular that they left no room for maxi dresses comeback.
In 2008, Kate Moss wore a maxi dress to a wedding and the fashion magazine globally announced the comeback of the maxi dresses. The 'comeback' maxi dresses had a bohemian style and ended just above the ankles. Today, the maxi dresses come in many different sizes and styles but safe to say, they are nowhere near the exaggerated 16th-century dresses.
Of course, it had to be on top of the list, given that they are available in breathable fabrics, it is the perfect summer garment to keep you light and fresh.
Maxi dresses have a major advantage: we dont need to match them with another piece of clothing, like a bottom. They work very well as a go-to option when you dont have the time and want to look your best.
3. No malfunctions
Maxi dresses are also very convenient because you dont have to worry about any tuck-ins or buttons coming undone.
4. Sun protection
We all want to feel light and breezy without worrying about overly tanning ourselves. Maxi dresses are a perfect way to cover our skin, protect us, and help us stay cool in hot weather.
Dresses are our favourite because of their versatility. You can wear dresses anywhere you want. Going to school, office, study lunches or corporate dinners, dresses can be styled with appropriate jewellery and shoes to make them suitable for the occasion. Dresses are also a leading choice for pregnant women to accommodate a growing tummy while staying on top of their fashion game.
6. They are flattering
Dresses have a feminine element that complements your style and downplays your flaws. You can choose from various cuts and patterns, neck and sleeve styles. You can also wear a belt to accentuate your waist and have a defined figure.
