Nobel Peace Prize 2014: Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyrarthi

The Norwegian Nobel Committee decided that the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded to Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyrarthi for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to receive education. MALALA YOUSAFZAI - 17 year old Pakistani girl - Known for her activism for rights to education and for women - Wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC, about her life under Taliban - 9 October 2012: Malala boarded her school bus in the northwest Pakistani district of Swat. A gunman asked for Malala by name, then pointed a Colt 45 at her and fired three shots - The assassination attempt sparked a national and international outpouring of support for Yousafzai. Deutsche Welle wrote in January 2013 that Yousafzai may have become "the most famous teenager in the world." KAILASH SATYRARTHI - Indian children's rights activist - Been active in the Indian movement against child labour since the 1990s - His organization, Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save Childhood Movement), has freed over 80,000 children from various forms of servitude - He is largely accredited for enactment and adoption of national and international legislations, treaties and conventions as well as the constitutional amendment on child labour and education
