Annabelle: Fact or Fiction?

Annabelle, a prequel spinoff of the popular horror movie The Conjuring, premiered earlier this month just in time for the spooky holiday season. The movie sounds to be hit or miss with audiences, though many seem to be enjoying the creepy Annabelle mask sweepstakes going around. Now I may not be one for scary stories, but how much of this creepy tale is true? Both The Conjuring and Annabelle are drawn from real stories, which I can’t help but be a little fascinated by, and as it turns out, the real Annabelle is almost as frightening as the fictional movie. The real Annabelle, an unassuming Raggedy Anna doll, was a gift given a college student named Donna, who lived with her roommate Angie and Angie’s fiancé Lou. According to reports, Annabelle began to change position and move entirely around the apartment, and on night even tried to strangle Lou in bed. Donna and Angie were skeptical at first, but when the found the doll with blood on her hands they called in a medium. The medium was able to reach the spirit inhabiting the doll and learned that it was Annabelle Higgins, a seven year old girl who was found dead in the field the apartment building they were living in was built on. You can read the full history of Annabelle at the attached article. The story is frightening to say the least, so if you’re a fan of scary things I recommend it. I’m the kind of girl who never stopped believing in fairy tales, but that kind of magic always seems to have a dark side too and when I see a story like this of possession and haunting I have to wonder what mysteries are out there waiting to be solved.

I'm a high school art teacher in the lovely land of AZ, I love fairy tales, reading, magic, and Once Upon a Time. Never stop dreaming!
