What Are the Declarations That Need to be Made on Every Package?
1- Name and address of manufacturer/ importer/ packer.
2- Country of origin of imported packages.
3- The commodity’s Common and generic name is contained on the package.
4- Retail Sale Price, in form of Market Retail Price (MRP), inclusive of all taxes.
5- Net quantity, in terms of weight/ measures’ standard unit or in number.
6- Customer care details.
7- 19 commodities must be packaged in the prescribed size.
What Are the Different Types of LMPC Certificates?
1. For Weight and Measuring (W&M) Instruments
1. Model approval for Indian W&M Instruments
According to Section 22, each weight and measurement instrument needs to comply with the standards established by the Indian Legal Metrology Department.
2. Manufacturing license
As per Rule 27 of Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011, each individual, firm, Hindu Undivided family business, company, corporation, society, etc.
3. Importer registration for weight and measuring instruments
If a manufacturer requires import weight and measuring instruments, its business must be registered with the Director of the LMPC to ensure the accuracy of the instrument.
2. For Non-Weight and Measuring Instruments
1. Packer or Manufacturer registration
Under Legal Metrology Law, a packer or manufacturer is an individual engaged in selling or distributing pre-packaged commodities.
2. Importer registration/ LMPC certificate
If you are engaged in the import/ export of pre-packaged commodities, you are required to complete the registration under Rule 27 of the Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rule, 2011.
