[29th-Oct-14] Live Card: Dallas-Vancouver, MLS Western Conference Knockout

The start of the 2014 playoffs as Vancouver travels to Dallas to fight for the right to play Seattle in the Conference Semi-Final. Both teams fully fit, healthy, and very much in form on a big night in the MLS. Refresh occasionally for updates. 1' - Underway here in the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs! 4' - Slow so far. Dallas had the ball forward but pinned near the touch. Nothing in it so far. 7' - Ugly foul by the Vancouver defender but Dallas win the free kick. Good ball that is whipped in but it comes to nothing. 11' - Dallas with a majority of the possession so far. They look the slightly better team as the Whitecaps earn a throw in the attack third. 14' - Koffie booked after Vancouver gifted the ball in midfield. He tugged on Diaz who looked to have him beat for pace. Easy decision for the referee. 17' - Dallas 60% possession so far. My prediction may turn out to be wrong still, particularly at this rate. Diaz is running the midfield. 21' - A corner, the first of the match, to Dallas. Michel's corner goes over everyone and curls out for goal kick. Wasted free kick. 25' - Hernandez for Vancouver is given an earful from the referee after surrendering a free kick for Dallas here. FC Dallas the better side so far. 27' - Morales with a rocket from distance that troubled the keeper but it's kept out. 29' - Castillo on the right runs around the Whitecap defense but two balls into the box are cleared away. Good pressure from FC Dallas. 31' - Koffie goes to ground but wins the ball a bit roughly. No foul called and it was clean enough but he's walking the tightest of tightropes. 35' - Dallas moving the ball well on the wings, particularly the right side. This time on the left they loft a ball in that's cleared. Dallas probing well. 36' - Watson leads with the arm and is booked for a rough challenge. The free kick is put on goal and almost catches the keeper napping, but he makes the save and it's clear. Best chance of the match so far for Vancouver. 38' - Diaz is causing Vancouver problems. Rosales fouls him and is warned (but not cautioned) by the refereeing for persistent fouling. 40' - Dallas on the break and Diaz is running with it before laying it to Tesho who slots it far post and SCORES. Dallas break the Vancouver defensive streak. FC Dallas 1-0 Vancouver Whitecaps 45' - Morales is booked for a pull on Michel, Dallas free kick is snatched up by the keeper. Half-Time Dallas FC 1-0 Vancouver Whitecaps Analysis: Dallas the much better side here, really attacking the flanks well. Some better quality crossing from Dallas could really hurt Vancouver in the 2nd half. 46' - Back underway here. Can Vancouver find an equalizer? 47' - Almost was the equalizer there! Off the bar from Morales! 50' - Perez takes a boot to the back of the head and we have a stoppage. Didn't look too bad thankfully. 53' - Castillo runs around 2 defenders into the box before his shot was blocked. Would have been better to pass there. 55' - Watson fouls, the 26th of the match combined, and the free kick is out for a Dallas corner. The ball goes right across the face of goal begging for someone on the end of it, but to no avail. 58' - Manneh is in for Morales for Vancouver here. Watson for the Whitecaps is also booked. Geiger with a strict but fair control of the match. 59' - BIG cross for Manneh who can't get on the end of it but Vancouver win a corner. It comes out to the far post where Sights makes a save. Another corner follows but is wasted. What a chance for the Whitecaps to draw level. 62' - Koffie is called for a foul and Geiger has probably given him the final warning. I would not be surprised to see Vancouver reduced to 10 before the end of the 90. 64' - A shot from Manneh is deflected and falls to Hurtado who shots and SCORES! Vancouver has drawn level. FC Dallas 1-1 Vancouver Whitecaps 71' - Dallas with good play forward. It's an open game but the crosses aren't finding anyone. Now Vancouver back the other way and Manneh on his right foot arches a ball just behind the far post. 75' - Game's dies down a bit. Looks like Extra-Time is approaching. 76' - Acosta's coming on for Ulloa for Dallas. Good move as Olloa's been quiet this 2nd half and hasn't been a huge factor so far. 79' - Mattocks is on for Hurtado, the Vancouver goal scorer. 80' - Diaz is off for Escobar for Dallas. Impressive game for Diaz. 82' - Sights had to get some treatment and wrapping of his right thigh. Ball is pumped into the box and his the arm of Watson. PENALTY TO DALLAS. No 2nd booking. Michel to take the spot kick. He takes a bit of time before striking it and SCORING. FC Dallas 2-1 Vancouver Whitecaps 85' - Bit of handbags. Dallas can't afford taking poor cards here. Fernandez for Vancouver is booked and Diaz for Dallas from the bench. Play finds a loose ball in the Dallas box that is frantically cleared out of the air. 87' - Mezquida is on for Koffie from the Vancouver camp. Should have been done way earlier than this, Koffie has been poor. 88' - Dallas do well here and win a corner. Hollingshead is on for Perez and all subs have been made. It comes to nothing. Vancouver come back the other way and two go to ground but nothing is called. All going off here. 90' + 1' - 5 minutes of stoppage to play. Squeaky bum time. 90' + 2' - Vancouver win a free kick 23 yards from goal here. Could be the best chance for Vancouver to force an equalizer. The free kick is taken but there's a foul in the box to end the chance. 90' + 4' - Tesho is fouled here. Dallas very close to advancing here. Full Time FC Dallas 2-1 Vancouver Whitecaps Analysis: In the aftermath of it all Fernandez goes nuts and is all int he face of referee Geiger, who shows him the red card. Not sure how much that will mean and if the suspension will last but Dallas were the better side. Vancouver will feel hard done; 2 playoff games and now 2 playoff losses for the franchise. Still, Dallas looked weak in midfield on defense and gifted possession, a feat that can burn them against Supporters Shield winning Seattle. For now though, Dallas are onto the Conference Semi-Finals.
