Floating Lantern Festival, Honolulu, Hawaii

There are plenty of lantern festivals held around the world, but none quiet as solemn and meaningful as the Floating Lantern Festival in Hawaii. More than 6,000 candle-lit lanterns with messages of remembrance and prayer illuminate the ocean each year off the coast of Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu, Hawaii. The event brings together more than 40,000 Hawaii residents and visitors from around the world who cast lanterns afloat into the sunset in remembrance of loved ones who have passed, or as prayer for a peaceful future. This festival takes place in May, so start planning your trip now! You can watch the full (hour-long) ceremony in the attached video!
