Could we learn something from Kim Kardashian?

Kim Kardashian was at this year's Re/Code conference to talk about her success in social media and with her new app Kim Kardashian: Hollywood developed by Glu Mobile. It is predicted that she will make $85 million from this game, which is an insane amount of money. When it was first announced that Kim would make it to the Re/Code conference in October, the responses, as you can imagine, were hateful. I'm not a huge Kim Kardashian fan, but I don't think I could hate her like many other people on the internet. I watched the talk, and it was interesting. Yes, she lives a privileged life, but I have to admit that she does know how to run a business when it comes to her brand. And I never even thought of her social media presence as marketing. I was reading through several online comments and noticed that there is a debate as to whether Kim can be considered a "Woman in Tech" and if her app is doing any good for woman in the industry. I'm not sure how to feel about it yet. I acknowledge that her app was successful and that she did contribute in some way when this app was being created. She might have not contributed code or taken part in the game development, but she was involved in the process of creating the app image and story-line. That's something, right? With her "Break the Internet" nudes going viral recently, I know that I am not a huge Kim Kardashian fan because of what she is doing with her body...but then I remember that her body is hers and she has a right to do what she wants with it. All I know for sure is that she knows how to stir up the internet and is able to use it to her advantage. Many companies wish they could have this same power. What do you all think? Could we learn something from Kim Kardashian and her fame? Does her involvement with the Glu Mobile app make her a woman in tech? Is this helping or hurting other women in the industry? I'd love to hear all of your thoughts.

I love learning about technology and how it's changing the world.
