The weather has been fluctuating like crazy lately. I think my body is finally taking a toll. Starting from last night my throat was feeling funny but I thought it might be the fried tofu I ate, so I drank some mint tea before sleeping. I woke up several time throughout the night and my throat was in the same condition. Maybe it's the lack of sleep but this morning the sore throat finally kicked in. I tried to stay hydrated through the day but the soreness is still there. As a curious individual I search the web to see what I should eat or drink to hopefully prevent it to get worst. Below are three remedies I'm planning to try.
Apple Cider Vinegar Drink
1 Tbsp of AVC
1 Tbsp of honey
1 cup of very warm water
1 Tsp cayenne pepper
1 wedge lemon
Garlic and Thyme Healing Soup
Looks funky and have a soldier of garlic in the soup but it apparently works.
2 tablespoons butter
2 celery stalks
1 whole head of garlic (at least) plus 3 extra cloves
1 1/2 quarts chicken stock
1 tablespoon thyme (at least) plus extra to finish
diced chicken (optional)
chopped leafy greens or other vegetables as desiredsplash of vinegar or lemon juice
sea salt & pepper to taste
1. Melt butter in a Dutch oven over medium-low heat. Add diced onion, celery, carrots, and a pinch of sea salt. Saute for about five minutes, or until onions are translucent. Meanwhile chop up all of the garlic, setting aside 3 cloves that are finely minced. Add garlic to vegetables, saute one more minute, and add stock, thyme, and chopped leafy greens or other vegetables. Bring to a boil, turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 10 minutes.
2. Add cooked chicken if using, a splash of vinegar or lemon juice, and season with sea salt and pepper. Turn off the heat and taste the broth for seasoning. Add more salt and pepper if necessary.
3. For those who are under the weather add the remaining finely minced raw garlic and sprinkle in some extra thyme for good measure. Serve piping hot.
Steam Pear Sugar Soup
This sounds more like a dessert than remedy for me but I like the fact that it's sweet. Given the above are kind of funky and spicy.
(optional: other fruits)
Peel the pear. Add water and sugar into the bowl and put it into the pot. Remember put enough water in pot. Then steam the pear sugar soup. After 15 minutes, you can take it out and wait until it cools. Enjoy it warm.
