Old film prints

I think old prints of films where particular technical care was taken in the shooting preserve natural light in a singular way - often the contrast of light to shade indoors, or color textures in an extended landscape. This is one of the joys of film itself, and cinema that I don't think is replicated on digital releases. I saw the movie Badlands on 35mm once - it's a favorite, I had seen it before - but on this version the mountains in the background in one shot, the way the clouds laid out that day, were blue - and it was beautiful - I'd seen those mountains before, but I'd never seen them blue.
