Director Sam Taylor-Johnson Formally Quits the '50 Shades of Grey' Franchise

When it comes to steamy romance movies involving GQ-esque billionaires and mild-to-moderate bondage, many women across the United States are probably shouting, "I wish I could quit you!" But it seems that '50 Shades' director Sam Taylor-Johnson already has - quit, that is.

In an official statement made earlier today, Taylor-Johnson said: "Directing Fifty Shades Of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie. While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three."

Press has speculated the move resulted after a long-running creative disagreement between Taylor-Johnson and the book series' author, E.L. James. But fear not, '50 Shades' fans! Universal is still scheduled to make a second and third film, and Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are still on board to star in the sequels.

However, this means the company is now scrambling to find a new replacement. (Which has me thinking - Has anyone ever thought of what a Wes Anderson '50 Shades' movie would look like)
