[25th-Apr-15] Match Preview: Stoke - Sunderland

Mar Muniesa looks set to miss the match with a calf injury but Stephen Ireland and Peter Odemwingie, the latter of which has been out since August, look possible for a return. Sunderland's Sebastian Larsson, Steven Fletcher, Emanuele Giaccherini, Ricky Alvarez, and Wes Brown are all out. The Black Cats' Adam Johnson is available despite being charged by the Durham police this week.

Stoke enter the game requiring a last second goal to draw with West Ham and maintain 9th spot. The Potters are looking for another successful season in the top flight and will look to be finishing in the top half once again under Mark Hughes. Dick Advocat might have won the tyre-wear derby, but so did his predecessors. His predecessors also managed to keep the club up and with Sunderland only a point above the drop the task is a difficult one for Advocat with only 5 games to play.

Sunderland have just 1 win in their last 7 against Stoke City and 1 of their last 6 at the Britannia Stadium in the Premier League. Sunderland have just 1 win in their last 10 in all competitions, including their elimination from the FA Cup by League One side Bradford City. Sunderland have secured only 9 points in 2015 with only QPR's 8 being worse.

Stoke are 5 points shy of setting a new club record for points in the Premier League. The Potters have never gone a top flight season without having a player sent off, but have yet to see the feat befall one of their players so far this season. In Stoke's last 18 games at home, they've kept 4 clean sheets.

Prediction: Stoke are a good side and the Britannia is tough to play at.
