The season finale of Arrow seemed very conclusive in a lot of ways. A huge villain was defeated, and a few of the characters seemed to have real closure. The show has done a great job so far, driving the story and keeping it engaging.
Thankfully, we now have an official synopsis, so we can structure our speculation around an official plot instead of just guessing.
"After defeating his most formidable foe to date and riding off into the sunset with longtime flame Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen (a.k.a. The Arrow) left Starling City with the hopes of beginning a new life. But will Oliver ever truly be able to leave behind his past as the Arrow, and, if so, what becomes of the team he has worked so hard to assemble? Will Diggle, Thea, and Laurel be left to continue Oliver's crusade without him? And with Malcolm Merlyn having ascended to the top of the League of Assassins as the new Ra's al Ghul, is anyone really safe? "
But of course it's still months away. So of course while I wait I'm going to think about all the things I really HOPE I'll see in season 4. How else am I supposed to survive the hiatus?
Leader of H.I.V.E., friend of Ra's al Ghul, and definitely not Bruce Wayne's son (though that would be cool too), Arrow has been vaguely hinting that this character will make an appearance. Since he's primarily a Titains villain, and there's a Titans series in the works, this could either be a cool crossover to help us ease into a new series, or a pipe dream. I could see Darhk stepping onto the scene, filling the void Ra's al Ghul left behind. Would he be powerful enough to be a real opponent?
The Lazarus Pit is kind of a weird deus ex machina in the DC Universe. It sounds like a good deal: you're not dead. But once in a while it comes with some weird side effects (notably, The Joker became temporarily sane after using one). Thea mentioned she felt a 'little weird', but mostly fine. But what does 'weird' mean?
With Oliver gone, there's a huge gap in Team Arrow's lineup. We know that the show functions in real-time, which means the months-long hiatus is time passing within the world of the show. Is the city safe? Will he don the costume again?
It's fun to speculate. With all the potential for crossovers and new villains, it's cool to imagine what might happen. Maybe some of our lredictions will actually be right! But it'll be even more fun when the show returns in the Fall and we can know for sure! October 6th is actually my birthday, so the fact that Arrow season 4 premieres the next day feels like a birthday present to me! In the meantime, is anyone else struggling with the wait?
