How To Clean & Disinfect Granite Countertops

I think most people have granite countertops in the kitchen, and maybe the bathroom too. At least everyone I know in Chicago has them. If you have them too then you know what a pain it is to clean them!

Is your granite sealed? If it isn't, then it would be more beneficial to get it sealed before you clean it. Check to see if it's sealed by leaving water droplets on the surface. If the water remains and is not absorbed, then it's sealed.

You're Gonna Need

Warm water

Mild or gentle dish soap

Dish cloth

Clean microfiber cloth or terrycloth towel

Isopropyl alcohol (optional)

The How-To

Wet your dish cloth with warm, soapy water.

Fill the sink with warm water and a mild dish soap, then thoroughly wet a clean dish cloth.

Wipe down the granite countertops.

Dry and buff your granite countertop thoroughly with a microfiber cloth or soft terry cloth towel to avoid streaking.

Shine and disinfect with a water and isopropyl alcohol solution. Allow to sit for a few minutes and then rinse with water and dry with a clean microfiber cloth.

Isopropyl Solution

Mix together a 50:50 solution of water and 91% isopropyl alcohol.
