5 Outfits for the Painfully Hot Days of Summer

Summer weather has reached a sweaty plateau here in New York City, and dressing for the weather every day is beyond challenging. When it's so hot that pants are the unthinkable and the snowy winter feels like another lifetime, here are five outfits to try to keep cool and look hot.

1. Casual Outfit:

Breezy white cami top tucked in (partially) to white shorts. White is a safe color to wear to keep you cool, and the monochrome adds dimension to an otherwise very simple outfit. Wear cool sandals to accessorize but avoid piling on the jewelry. If your top is on the sheer side, layer a bralette or bandeau underneath.

2. Work Outfit:

A sleeveless shell top (fringe optional) and lightweight track pants or linen pants, plus sandals. The top and pants don't have to be white, but it looks cool and will save you a couple of degrees of body heat. Note that your midriff shouldn't be showing, unless you have that kind of workplace going on.

5. Anyday Outfit:

Midi-length slip dress and slide sandals. If your office is too conservative for this look, bring a semi-sheer sweater to slip on in the safety of air-conditioning. The slip dress could go sexy, but a longer length and casual slides keep it grounded to wear almost anywhere. The idea is that the dress is so light and loose that it just skims over your bust and drapes down without sticking to your skin or bunching.
